#8: Aylesbury Vale Parkway to Aylesbury
This excellent 25km walk produced by the Saturday Walkers Club goes from Aylesbury Vale Parkway station to Aylesbury. It takes you to various hilltop villages in the area. Various shortcuts are available if you want to shorten the walk.
Tips for walking from Aylesbury
Beyond Wendover the Chiltern Railways line passes into the Aylesbury vale - generally much less interesting walking than the Chilterns. After Stoke Mandeville (location of the famous hospital and birthplace of the Paralympics) is Aylesbury, county town of Buckinghamshire. Another Chiltern Railways joins at Aylesbury, offering the opportunity for a slightly slower journey back to London via Princes Risborough and High Wycombe.
Aylesbury station gives access to all the facilities of a large town, with plenty of places to eat and drink.
A new station, Aylesbury Vale Parkway, lies 4.5 km north of the town and is currently the terminus of the line (one day trains may head further north as work is underway to link to the revived Oxford to Cambridge rail line). The Parkway station is much more isolated than the town's - although there is a stakehouse nearby!

Walks from Aylesbury or Aylesbury Vale Parkway stations
Like Wendover, Aylesbuy has a branch of the Grand Union Canal running into the town centre, which can make a good starting point for walks. This is a 9.6km linear walk along the canal from Aylesbury to Marsworth, where the Aylesbury branch joins the main part of the canal. You could extend this to Tring station (another 4.5km) to reconnect with public transport.
Aylesbury has a 50km walking ring around the town which could be used as the basis for walks starting and finishing in the town. There is also an even bigger 85km outer ring which is helpfully broken into sections on the local ramblers website. The ring runs close to a number of other stations, including Priness Risborough and Haddenham & Thame (Chiltern Railways main line), Wendover (Chiltern line to Aylesbury) and Cheddington (Euston main line) - I hope to explore those walking options one day.
