#4: Great Missenden to Wendover
A great walk between two pleasant towns which takes in part of the Misbourne Valley, with the option of ending up at Coombe Hill for spectacular views across the Aylesbury vale.
This leaflet with walking details produced by the Chiltern Conservation Board has circular walks from either Wendover or Great Missenden. My suggestion is to walk from Great Missenden to Wendover by taking the route out of Great Missenden and then linking up with the final section of the Wendover circular walk.
The route from Great Missenden station is fairly obvious from the map in the leaflet, but in more detail:
-
Come out of Great Missenden station and turn left towards Station Approach (A4128).
-
Turn right onto Station Approach and walk down the hill. There is a Co-op supermarket on your right if you need supplies.
-
At the bottom of the hill turn left onto High Street (various pubs and cafes are available on the High Street).
-
You have now joined up with the instruction on the Chiltern Conservation Board leaflet (point 14). Continue along High Street until the road forks. Take the left fork onto Rignall Road.
To get to Coombe Hill, you could follow the instructions down into Wendover and then take the (well signposted) Ridgeway path from outside Wendover station. Alternatively in Dunsmore carry straight on (rather than taking the right fork - point 17).
From Coombe Hill it is an easy walk along the Ridgeway path back into Wendover.
